For me it has to be:

  1. Helix mattress ($1,217). Sleep is great.
  2. Home gym power cage & weights (~$1,000). Look good, feel good, get strong.
  3. Netgear Nighthawk AXE7800 ($339). No more random, annoying internet disconnects/slowness.
  4. Books ($0 @ library)
    • “Ultralearning” - Scott Young (how to learn efficiently)
    • “Enlightenment Now” - Steven Pinker (the world overall is improving)
    • “The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing” - Taylor Larimore (how to invest)
  5. PS5 ($500). So many great games like witcher 3, god of war, spiderman.

I’m searching for some more deep value purchases. Give me what you’ve got.

I would love to hear some watch stuff, I’ve started getting into watches lately and have a Casio Duro on the way as my first collection.

      Casio Duro

I got very lucky with a Casio Tough Solar bought as a stopgap… after having owned some nice Seiko, Citizen etc - I lost my last one when a pin came loose riding my bike. Got home, no watch… old story.

I abused this NASTY cheap plastic Casio, but the plastic just keeps smoothing out - the face is not glass, so scratches got polished out with toothpaste. Now 9 years old… but crazy that I only actually adjust it about once or twice a year when it gets more than a half minute off. It should be maybe +/- 20 seconds per month, but I get that in a year.

Casio duro is an excellent option as a starter watch , a beater for around 50 bucks that can essentially do it all , can’t go better than that

If you’d like other watches , these are some of the ones That you might wanna consider : Casio gshock GA 2000/2100 (Casioak) , is a really trendy line with dozens of different color variations, I own the GA-2110ET-8AJF (grey one) & the ga2100srs-7a (the iridescent rainbow one) , this one is really funky & technically illegible in the sun due to its tinted glass , but it’s a really fun piece , both of them go for around 100$ usd

Another beater from casio that i’d recommend looking into is the casio dw290 v1 for 40 bucks , it looks funny but it’s more comfortable to use than other gshock watches i own , I wear when I know that I’m gonna have a long work day in our hospital prison ward or something , you know ,a watch that I don’t need to worry about

If you want a dressy quartz chronograph, I really liked the Timex Q chronograph with the brown leather strap for around 200 bucks

As for mechanical watches , there are a lot of options , but they usually require you to go above 150$ as a starter (there are some exceptions of course, & they require more care so maybe do your research before buying one if you’re new to watches

And if you needed anything or have any questions or just wanted to talk about watches , just hit me up , it’s a fun hobby, a money drain if you go too deep , but fun nevertheless …

      Enjoy!

Yeah, I had to buy a duro, it’s a stunner! and for the price it’s a no brainer. The new variant GA-B2100 is on my radar. It has bluetooth for keeping time and some basic reminders and tough solar.

As for mechanical I thought I’ll buy some HMTs, since they have heritage where I am from and they are pretty cheap too. But the dials are all horrible.

a money drain if you go too deep

You are absolutely right, I never thought I would buy a watch let alone multiple watches. Have you found a sub-lemmy yet?

Hope you’ll enjoy every second w your duro… Regarding GA B2100 , it’s a solid option , no arguing about that It’s the first time I’ve heard about HMTs , hope you’ll find a model that suits you

          & no , I haven’t found a sub for watches here yet

I have a duro and a tough solar. I have worn the tough solar every single day since 2018 and have never had am issue. I’ve had people comment on how nice the duro looks.
For my money, you can not go wrong with Casio. Indestructible. Classic. Jeans and a T-shirt. Can’t go wrong.
