    Makes sense. They have a massive overtourism problem and it isn’t sustainable.

    It is not a money-making move, he added, saying the fee would only cover the cost of administering the scheme.

    This just seems so pointless. 5 euros doesn’t seem like it’s going to significantly reduce the number of visitors, and it’s literally just a money pit.

      5€ is pocket change for tourists, I’ve seen people buy selfie sticks for 20€ while in Rome

    This is just a maneuver to extort money from visitors. Venice is a public city and if the municipality needs money they can tax residents like any other city. Except that nobody want to live in Venice because of reasons, so they want to exploit tourists. If I were a foreigner, I would simply change my destination.
