I wish I got into it as much as everyone rose did.
When I was young I played plenty of animal crossing and harvest moon.
But for one reason or another stardew valley just didn’t grab sadly.

It definitely is on MY 100 list forever, but other games on their list are definitely not on mine. Also a list that doesn’t include Gothic 1 or 2 is inherently flawed. ;)

I understand that these lists create clicks, so it is probably worth the hassle for them to spent a lot of time compromising on it. It is also the list of 2024 - so it is not a final thing just a glimps into their current thoughts lasting 12 months until the next list, so recency bias is fine.

For what YOUR top 100 are I recommend checking out https://www.grouvee.com/ and sharing your thoughts and reviews and keeping your collections organized. It is free and the community is welcoming and well moderated.

This feels like such a weird exercise to even attempt. It’s been 42 years, tens, if not hundreds of thousands of games and dozens of generations of hardware. What do you mean top 100?

I mean, they do explain how they put the list together, I just think it is the peak of listicle absurdity. Not because Stardew Valley doesn’t belong, just as a thing to do. Balatro is neat, but there are like 200 90s CRPGs I’d have to finish before I make that commitment to “8th best PC game of all time”.

First things first, they need to get the playstation games off the list. Death Stranding is a fantastic playstation game, but it has no business being on a “best PC games of all time list”.

Yeah, that stands out. Is Persona 5 one of the best PC games ever? Woof, I don’t know. I’m not sure it’d even be at the top of my Persona/Megaten list.

But that’s superseded by the aburdity of implicitly having to make a call on whether Alley Cat is a better game than Cyberpunk 2077 or Ultima IV a better game than Hollow Knight. What are we even talking about at that point?

There’s literally one single RPG game from 90’s on that list, Planescape Torment, what are you on about? If anything, the list is skewed with how many games there are new ones. I mean Baldur 3 is good but nowhere near the best PC game ever, not even the best PC rpg game ever (that would be KotOR 1 which isn’t even on the list despite worse 2 made it). And too much black horse fads like balatro.

You minsunderstand what I’m saying. My point is that I would have to play all the CRPGs that ever existed before I commit to accepting any game as one of the top 100, especially if it’s a newer game.

There are just too many games on PCs to make this type of generalization in any way that makes sense.

Disco fucking Elysium, babes! Play it, live it, take it out to dinner!

Then lie down and try not to cry about the corpo bullshit that killed ZA/UM.

The most disco way to go out, though.

I keep giving up on Disco Elysium. What makes it so great in your opinion? Hopefully you can awake the Disco beast in me, because I really want to like it

I think it’s mostly about the atmosphere, the vibe and immersing yourself in the world of Martinaise. Don’t “over-game” Disco Elysium. Go with the flow and see where the exceptional story will carry you to the heart of Disco. Or the apocalypse. Or Communism, regret, la Responsibilité. There are a lot of fun things to discover.

Never ever save scum. You are playing a desolate husk of something that was a cop years ago, so you live through your fuckups. At least for the first run. Then and only then will you ride the Idiot Doom Spiral until the end.

See you on the other side of the pale, fellow second yefreitor. Officer on scene.

Evolutionary deaths and genuine internal character conflict. It’s one of the VERY few games where you can game over due to ennui.

It’s probably the single most complex dialog tree in gaming even before you take into account it’s wholly original leveling system.

You’re not alone. When I played it I gave up on it after 8 hours. It felt like reading a book with no plot. Nothing really happened during my play time. Except for random deaths that forced me to save scum all the time.

The art style is nice though.

I read about the three new studios. The art collective one sounds interesting with their anti-corpo attitude. Seems like they could come up with something with a similar mindset.

What I’m really interested in, though, is what Robert Kurvitz and that other guy are cooking.

I’m a big Slay the Spire fan but have never heard of it yet. I’ll check it out, but I do wonder why it’s ranked higher than Slay the Spire.

I’m also a massive slay the spire fan, I’d say Balatro is easier to pick up and the runs are shorter, so it really has an addictive loop of “just one more try”, however I think you’re much more in the hands of RNG and I personally wouldn’t put it on the same level as STS, but it is a great game and definitely worth checking out!

Strange, I’m not experiencing that! Are you using an adblocker? I’m wondering if ads might have something to do with that.

Aha! I wonder if the ads cause the janky scrolling.

If you’re interested, you can get ublock on Firefox if you’re using Android, and wipr from the App Store on iOS to get adblocking in Safari! Firefox Focus also has Adblock by default.

Huh i expected this list to be populated by multi shooters but it isn’t that, it’s surprisingly good. I played 33 games on this list and i even agree that half of them should be on that list, though not necessarily with specific placement.
