Hello! nǐ hǎo! toki! Saluton!

I got the idea for a type of thread for language learners across Lemmygrad and Hexbear where we can chat about languages, natural or constructed! I hope that this can help reignite the language learning communities on Lemmygrad!

Here’s some questions for you beloved language learners!

  • What language(s) are you learning?
  • What inspired you to begin learning the language(s) you chose?
  • Do you have a favorite word or phrase in the language you’re learning?

Here are some links for language learners!

    What language(s) are you learning?

Focused on Mandarin, with some occasional effort into other languages to mix things up, cause I’m past the initial excitement early phase of the language, so I want to make sure I don’t get bored or burned out on my efforts.

What inspired you to begin learning the language(s) you chose?

Probably a number of reasons, but for one, I want to be able to understand the culture more directly, instead of through western stuff. It’s also just spoken by a lot of people and by well, a very influential anti-imperialist and socialist state, so there’s that too.

Do you have a favorite word or phrase in the language you’re learning?

No favorite word/phrase comes to mind, but I can say, I like the repeating a verb thing in Chinese to make it less formal, like 周末我们一起去公园走走吧!(zhōu mò wǒ men yī qǐ qù gōng yuán zǒu zǒu ba!) (Let’s go for a walk in the park this weekend!). (I lifted this example from a language site, I am not yet confident enough to draw one up on the fly from my knowledge of Mandarin.)
