I’ve learned the hard way to never give my email or address to charities or political campaigns. If they require that info to donate, they don’t get a donation 🤷

I didn’t give them my email address! I don’t even know how they got it!

I’m not even a registered Democrat.

Also, I already voted for them. I wish there was some way to let them know that.

They know. If you are still receiving get out the vote communications, then it just hasn’t been passed down yet. Just unsubscribe.

I have to give my email in order to get a mail-in ballot. And of course, they put that email on all the political lists so they can bombard you. I typically just keep blocking them and they have reduced over time. Still frustrated tho…

      Same.

Years ago, like an idiot, I gave my primary email address to ActBlue. I get SO MUCH political spam now, it’s insane. Like, I now have a blanket policy to just immediately unsubscribe, delete, and blacklist entire domains now.

I haven’t had any problems with the unsubscribe link or “STOP” to texts on any of these.

I’ve found the unsubscribe links from emails sometimes works, but replying STOP to texts doesn’t seem to ever work.

I block those texts because yeah the stop thing doesn’t ever send confirmation, so I doubt it works.

Haven’t gotten any emails though, thankfully.

I get lots of emails from both sides, I’ve trained Google to send them all to spam. If I donate to a candidate, it won’t be because of an email.

I sent an email to my (Republican) congressman at his official Congress email address about an issue, and he must have used that as an excuse to add me to his solicitation list, and now my spam is filled with all the emails. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I lived in a competitive state.

It really is. There were a couple of actually useful messages inviting me to a rally, that I almost missed because when you get TOO MANY messages, you don’t read ANY of them.

They went WAY too heavy on the targeted email and text ads. Those don’t get undecided votes, they just annoy the people who already support you.

I haven’t gotten a text directly from the campaign yet. I’ve gotten a few others for local stuff, but that’s it.

My favorite is a guy who sent me a text. His nickname is, apparently, Top Gun, which is also the name of his business. He’s a gun range owner. I know that’s his nickname because he put it in quotes between his first and last name in his text. Also, every other sentence ended with an emoji. Also also, I had already voted and not for him.

So I’m not voting for him for all three reasons.

        Top Gun

        kagis

Apparently this is at least his second election doing this.

I’m a little suspicious that the goal is to promote his business more than running for office.

He apparently bought a furniture store and converted the whole thing into a massive gun store with a bunch of amenities with "the largest showroom and indoor shooting range in the Midwest. "

EDIT: As I vaguely remember, when US legislation went through restricting unsolicited telemarketing and such, there was an exception for political campaigns.

        checks

        https://www.donotcall.gov/

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls

        • You can register your home or mobile phone for free.

        • After you register, other types of organizations may still call you, such as charities, political groups, debt collectors and surveys. To learn more, read our FAQs.

Yeah. Thinking that might be the angle.

That’s the guy. He also opened his own private school during COVID (in the gun store) where kids didn’t have to wear masks or be vaccinated.

Mystifyingly, there’s also an ice cream parlor in the store’s lobby. Even my conservative mother-in-law who was career army said, “well we’re not going there” when she found that out.

Which is yet another reason I would never vote for him.

You know, I tried a lot of tactics to get the spam calls and texts to stop.

What ended up working so far is telling them that I’m sick of the spam, and that because of it, I’m staying home instead of voting.

Mind you, I’m lying, but they don’t need to know that. But it worked, so far. Haven’t gotten any in a few days now, and they were coming in multiples each day before that

I lived in L.A. over 10 years ago. I live in Indiana now, but I still get California texts and phone calls. Nothing I seem to be do has been able to stop them. Maybe I’ll try that.

Especially when I’ve got under $200 in my bank account. My wife gave them $25 last month though. She gets endless texts because of it.

If Harris loses, I don’t even want to think of what the next four years will bring. But, whichever way it goes, I take at least some small solace in knowing the PAC text spam will finally shut the fuck up for a little while…

More lies than anything else. There are always a few statements that can easily be disproven with a quick search. It’s tailored to people who only trust news that was spoon-fed to them by Trump.
