    As an island nation with a scarcity of resources, you’d think Japan would be more interested in transportation solutions that don’t involve regular delivery of fuel.

      The regular delivery of fuel is what powers the grid. The grid is what powers electric cars. In Japan, EVs are just ICE cars with extra steps, which is why they pursued hydrogen so ardently.
