This would land on a Tuesday, but I don’t recall PlayStation ever having any events or major announcements in December in the past (outside of The Game Awards)

EDIT: As several commenters mentioned, that is the date for the 30th anniversary. It could just be a nod to that, or it could be something else. Also, as 4000kd mentioned, they used to have PS Experience in December but they stopped doing those in 2018.

EDIT 2: There was a State of Play in December 2019 for the 25th anniversary, as Medical_Study_9968 mentioned. It could be something like that again.
