A metric they published themselves. Who even cares about this bullshit anymore? As if anyone could verify that.

Yesterday I read on mastodon that leaving Twitter to go to Bluesky is like quitting smoking to start vaping. Changing a centralized place that lives off your data for another one. Right now Bluesky does not have hate speech like Twitter just because it does not suit the current accounts of its shareholders

Yeah I tried to move to Mastodon but without a hot feed it’s just so boring.

Unfortunately only Bluesky and Lemmy seem to be attempting a decentralized hot feed, and Lemmy is too quiet for niche topics, and Bluesky is only decentralized in theory.

I don’t know, it depends on the type of content you are used to seeing and these things, in my language and my interests, Mastodon is enough for me with about 150-200 daily toots from the media and people I follow, not all of them interesting, mind you, but most

Yeah but most toots are boring, and the chronological feed, and refusal to even hide repeated posts by the same person, does Masterdon absolutely no favors.

I think the last time I logged in my new feed was entirely posts by Cory doctro, who just decided to toot an entire article, and after I clicked more posts enough, it was just showing pictures of someone else’s cup of tea.

My experience is not that, maybe I follow less “boring” people and the chronological order seems great to me. I have also not seen repeated toots from the same person and of course, people like this Dr. Cory do not seem like the right person to follow (from what you say, I have no idea who he is)

It’s just a mathematical inevitablity that it won’t work well.

Most people’s posts are not as good as their best ones and if I’m just going to dip into a site I’d like to see things I’m interested in that other people also thought were good.

Some people don’t like to use social media like that though, and more power to you if Mastodon scratches your itch.

That is, you’d rather have an algorithm tell you what’s fun or interesting than the ability to discover things organically. Ok, bluesky is your place

And yet you’re on Lemmy which also has a hot feed.

The things is you can do both, and it’s hard and unrewarding to find interesting things on Mastodon. So I stopped trying.

The really dumb things is the new feed is also an algorithm. You’re just proud that it’s not very good.

I don’t know if I personally buy that analogy.

Xitter and Truth Social already exist and thus they already have the market cornered on being a right-wing cesspool of bigotry; from a corporate perspective, there is little point in appealing to an over-saturated market niche. Instead, it is entirely in Bluesky’s interest that they don’t in order to distinguish themselves. Now will they truly decentralize? I don’t know, but it’s the best we’ve got that is gaining momentum for a reason. Beggars can’t be choosers.

The market niche today is what it is, that is clear and gives the direction of the company, but its main interest is to make money (something legitimate of course) so if the market situation changes and Twitter or Truth Social go to the bottom they could try to capture that garbage out of pure economic interest.

In Mastodon something like this could happen in a specific node, by blocking it you avoid losing the entire network. It is an absolute advantage. Mastodon’s only problem with Bluesky is Bluesky’s marketing department

I’m sure it’s been asked 1 million times but do they actually federate with us? I haven’t seen a blue sky handle.
