      Ohhh…

      They mentioned 星加坡 and 新加坡.

In Cantonese, 星加坡 sounds more natural because it’s sing ka po. 新加坡 sounds like sun ka po.

In mandarin 新加坡 is probably a little easier to roll off in mandarin because it’s sin jia po, while 星加坡 is sing jia po.

So the name used probably depends on the dialect that the text was intended to be verbalised in.

Note, my spelling is to help illustrate the sounds to a someone who does’t know how to vocalise chinese words. If you already know romanised chinese (pinyin) then all the above you can figure out on your own anyway.

Noob question about creating a new post in this community- I tried yesterday and today, got nothing but the endless whirring green circle for all 3 times attempts.

    • What I did was:
    • Click on “Create a Post” button in the side bar.
    • Left “URL” field blank cos I only wanted to do a text post.
    • Filled in the “Title” field
    • Typed the test of the post in the “Body” field.
    • Make sure Café is selected in the “Community” field
    • Left “NSFW” unchecked
    • Selected “English” for language.
    • Clicked “Create”

No progress. Is something wrong? @[email protected] @[email protected]

Hmm, have you make sure “cafe” is selected in the “community”?

Maybe try posting it in incognito mode to make sure cache didn’t mess it up. The endless spinning mean it has an error but the current version is incapable of displaying error message.

Oh yeah I did that. I typed that up must have deleted the whole line when i was putting in the * for the bullet points.

I’ll try incognito mode and report back

          Doesn’t work on the following:

          • PC Chrome normal and incognito
          • PC Firefox normal and private
          • iPhone DuckDuckGo
          • iPhone Safari normal and private

Don’t know if there’s something I’m doing wrong consistently, or lemmy is bonkers not

I also tried once with a generic test post (and once with the URL field pointing to monyet.cc), also unsuccessful

              Title:

Simple introduction to Fediverse, Mastadon and Lemmy

              Body:

I’m still wasn’t not sure of the topology of these spaces so I asked chatGPT. Here’s the gist of it (I edited and rearranged the reply):

              • Fediverse is a network of interconnected social media platforms that are decentralized and based on open protocols.
              • Mastodon is a one of the social media platforms within the Fediverse that resembles Twitter.
              • Lemmy is also a social media platform within the Fediverse that is similar to Reddit.

The Fediverse is a network of interconnected social media platforms that are based on open protocols and standards. It’s like a collection of different communities that can communicate and interact with each other. These platforms are often decentralized, meaning that they are not controlled by a single entity or company.

Mastodon is one of the most popular platforms in the Fediverse. It’s similar to Twitter, but with some key differences. Mastodon allows users to create accounts, post messages (called toots), follow other users, and interact with their posts by liking, reposting, or replying to them. One of the significant advantages of Mastodon is that it is decentralized, which means that anyone can set up their own Mastodon instance (a server), and users from different instances can still connect and interact with each other. Think of it as many different communities hosted on different servers, but they can all communicate and share information with each other.

Lemmy is another platform in the Fediverse, but it is more similar to Reddit. It allows users to create communities (called instances) based on specific topics or interests. Users can join these communities and post links, text, or discussions related to that topic. Other users can then upvote, comment, and participate in those discussions. Like Mastodon, Lemmy is also decentralized, so there can be multiple instances of Lemmy running independently, but they can still interact with each other.

Don’t tell them r/my only gained traction in 2018 and really experienced a growth spurt due to Covid-19 and the lockdown.

For now, I view this as a gathering place for people to blow water/ talk cock/ shoot the breeze. It doesn’t have enough participants (yet) that someone can just lie back and watch the endless scroll of comments and links.

If I’m in a small picnic and I don’t say a word to anyone, I’m not making the picnic any more sociable.

If you’re at a buzzing student party then maybe you can get by just watching the show, listening to other people chatter etc. But not here. Here not enough crowd for that.

Blow water and talk cock is an acquired taste, but i share the same enthusiasm. r/malaysia has become more and more left. I haven’t open the Reddit app for a week now, I hope the shift will sticks. I am still exploring the Fediverse and the interconnects of difference instances.

That sucks :((( my friend heard they’re opening in batches tho, so maybe there’s still hope?

I don’t know if I got, it has been “payment processing” since 12.40pm. And it says payment method credit card but I used a debit card. Idk if I selected wrongly T.T

Money gone from my available balance but can still see it in available balance. Nobody else got in so we all just praying super hard now.

Thread already recorded more than 50 million users in a day, that’s a credible rival to Twitter already.

how do you hint to a potential romantic interest that he’s making cringe comments/unfunny remarks without making him feel upset/insecure about it?

I would just be honest but gently about it. See how he reacts. If he gets defensive, find a new person.

Not sure about others butas long as its not offensive, i’d let it slide. Everyone have a cringe moment that only they themswlves will remember the rest of their life, but not other people.
