It’ll be interesting to see how well the new names take. Most of the other names on the network are shortened versions of the originals, or nicknames which then got officially adopted.

I still think the Goblin name will live on with those who use it.

The thing is, everyone still calls Crossrail Crossrail and not “The Elizabeth line”. Its funny to piss off the gammon but TfL should have leaned into already used names.

I think a lot of the names come off as a bit of a sick joke. We have had the Windrush scandal from 2018 onwards where the Windrush generation were subjected to harrasment by the Home Office meaning the losses of homes and jobs. Many were also deported.

The Mildmay line being named after the hospital that treated AIDS victims is also pretty fucked up. The AIDS crisis was, as a whole, state violence by neglect towards LGBTQ+ people. Earlier this year, the UK reinforced a court decision to ban puberty blockers for under-18s, which was a compromise in the first place, instead of access to the hormones that they felt best suited them. I have personally known multiple trans children who have died citing responsibility for their deaths towards this medical neglect. This gives the impression that if the AIDS crisis were to happen again, our Government would make the same mistakes all over again.

It’s the Lizzie line. AFAIK there weren’t really any other names for the overground, which was in itself confusing.

I quite like the new names so interested to see how they evolve in the lingua franca from here on

I was concerned that there was some performative allyship at play here, but I withheld judgement as I dont fit into any of the concerned categories myself. I asked my friend what he thought of the new name, he gets the windrush line to work, and his grandparents actually came to the uk from jamaica on one of those first boats, and he seemed pleased with new name.
