Apps and booklets are offering advice on how to build a bunker, stockpile food and live without electricity in case the worst happens

Germany is developing an app to help people locate the nearest bunker in the event of attack. Sweden is distributing a 32-page pamphlet titled If Crisis or War Comes. Half a million Finns have already downloaded an emergency preparedness guide.

If the prospect of a broader conflict in Europe seems remote for many, some countries at least are taking it seriously – and, in the term used by Germany’s defence minister, Boris Pistorius, taking steps to get populations kriegsfähig: war-capable.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has dramatically raised security tensions across the Baltic region, prompting Finland and Sweden to abandon decades of nonalignment and join Nato. Military capability, however, is not all: citizens have to be braced too.

    Fuck, good reminder, gotta check my AwwShitHereWeGoAgainRusskies -bag and eat out the stuff going old and replace it with new foodstuffs.

    Also, I’m kinda scared about this canned cream chicken stuff that I bought in 2021 and its supposedly good for 09/2025. I want to believe, but… How. How on earth can it last so long. It’s delicious though, no denying that.

    Edit: Oh and the “again” stuff is because both sides of my family lineage lost their farms and lands to the russkies in WW2.

      As for your canned food question:

      The main factors of spoilage are Microorganisms -> Oxygen -> Light

      If canned properly a can takes care of all of these. If the can is undamaged, chance is your cream chicken is perfectly fine to eat for many more years.

      It’ll probably still be good after 9/2025. As long as the can isn’t dented or bulging out, the food should still be good. It might not taste as fresh as opening it now, but there shouldn’t be anything wrong with it because it’s a sealed can. A quick search will explain it better than me.
