Not sure how are they difference people, they flip flop pretty regularly when something didn’t flop (or go well) as they expected, see The Mario movie or Ciberpunk.
I remember how the Mario movie was woke on opening day because of Peach not being a damsel (Which in modern games she is pro-active in Bowser’s defeat more often than not, and in games as early as Mario 3 she was still somewhat proactive in her own rescue) but then when public opinion was for it they dropped that immediately.
Personally I wasn’t a fan of Peach in the Mario Movie, it’s not that I don’t like Peach being a bit of a girlboss (She do have that dawg in her in a lot of media I enjoy), it’s just that it felt like Mario wasn’t really necessary to defeating Bowser and that the conflict would have gone Peach’s way even without him.
I guess what I’m saying is, I didn’t have a problem with Peach really, I just thought they could have done a little more to justify Mario being in his own story.
