Summary

Stanley has recalled 2.6 million stainless steel travel mugs due to faulty lids that can detach, causing burns.

The recall affects Switchback and Trigger Action mugs sold in the U.S. between 2016 and 2024 at retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 91 incidents globally, including 38 burn injuries, with 11 requiring medical attention.

Customers are urged to contact Stanley for replacement lids. The popular mugs, priced between $20 and $50, remain a staple for many despite safety concerns.

The enshittification continues. I remember when Stanley made some good drinkware that working people swore by. Now I wouldn’t pay half the ridiculous price they’re charging for the “super exclusive collaboration with some random celebrity no one cares about” (made in china) cups.

      They switched their target audience.

They started as a product for working people with high quality.

The new CEO came and switched Stanley to a fashion accessory for soccer moms.

Some of them are collecting these and don’t even drink from them. It makes them much more money, but at this point products from other companies are better if you care about quality.

My exact thoughts. I have a Stanley thermos I found behind a bar one night, solid piece. I’d never buy a new one.
