I’m out of the loop. Why were their elections controversial and why does she believe she’s the only legitimate president? Was it because of Russian interference?

Yes, and fraud. Also, the new president ran on continuing EU accession talks and has turned about and suspended them before day one.

the party that won doesnt want georgia to (try to) join nato. that’s enough to make them illegitimate nowadays.

All the other parties boycotted the election, so this guy won by default. I don’t know why they were boycotting it, but having only one person on the ballot doesn’t seem like a free and fair election by any measure.

Empire regularly installs all kinds of “legitimate presidents” around the globe. Ultimately it only matters who’s controlling the guns.
