Firefox has never put a priority on privacy. Just take a glance at their privacy policy. And it’s plain to see that they are moving further away from it every day.

There are a dozen Firefox forks though. Mulch, DDG, TOR, Fennic, Bromite, etc.

Mulch is also Chromium-based (not to mention also developped by the DivestOS team so as of now unmaintained) and DDG’s browser is based on WebKit.

Only 2/5 of the browsers they mention are Gecko-based.

Don’t take my word for it. Like I said, it’s written in plain language right in their Privacy Policy.

Could you cite the parts which are irking you specifically please?

Taking someone’s word for it isn’t really kosher in terms of privacy for some people, but I do reckon they’d like to hear your thoughts.

I just applied mulls user js to fennec in the mean time. But I’m going to try to build mull once I get home from the holidays

I would be more willing to work on Android if there was a good Foss build of the SDK. Right now the only options are from Debian oldoldstable and sid.

Huh yeah I’ve never even looked into that, but you raise a good point. I personally don’t love working on android apps, only do if there’s something I want that hasn’t been done yet.

As mull appears to have the lowest number of bits of identifying information exposed in my tests of different android browsers on the eff’s website, I’m willing to try to maintain until someone more experienced comes around. But looking at the repo it doesn’t seem super involved but I won’t really have a good idea until I actually get to trying

In my brief testing, using Arkenfox didn’t work for Fennec for me. It wouldn’t connect to any site.

I am rooted, and copied the user.js to data/data/org.mozilla.fennec_froid/files/mozilla/[xxxxxxx].default and deleted prefs.js

Checked about:config _config.is.applied and it was set to true.

Couldn’t even browse to any site.

So I am going to have to do some more research.

Just apply the ones that are in mulls repo. There’s a write up on how to apply user js to android ff variants in better fox’s issue tracker

From Betterfox’s repo is where I got the instructions.

However, with Mull going away, I wonder how long the user.js from Mulls repo will be viable.

Edit: also trying to find the user.js that Mull uses is proving difficult for my dumbass.

I’ll prob get downvoted for this, but paste the instructions into an LLM and have it assist you. misread OP’s comment

As for user.js prefs potentially aging out, arkenfox updates very rarely (once every few months IIRC), so the present user.js should be fine for a while until someone inevitably forks and maintains mull.

Personally I had to change mulls prefs(‘<…>’) to user_prefs or vice versa to get it to work.

Functional like mull? Oh wait. It has been shut down.

If it works, it works. Havent had any problem with firefox. So i stick with it. I dont have time pondering what browser to use every single time stuff like this happens.

Anything can be shutdown for any reason. Mull lasted for many years and had a lot of community support. Many of us value our privacy and computing freedom.

I wouldn’t personally use anything from Graphene os but that’s just me.

If you are looking for a hardened Chrome clone Chromite is pretty good.

There was the time when Daniel Micay was the project lead and I wouldn’t trust him either. The current leadership seems fine though. I dislike that they only want to support Pixel phones but other than that I don’t see any issues.

I use Iceraven currently. It’s a Firefox fork. Back when I started to use it, It was one of only two browsers (other being Smart Cookie Web Preview) to support extension sideloading on Android.

I don’t think Iceraven is as hardened as Mull, but it is updated on a regular basis. Either case, for most folks, regular Firefox should do the trick. There is also Waterfox, another FF fork on desktop/mobile but it hardly has much to distinguish itself.

@Blaze I’m using FOSS Browser since a long time. I want to keep things minimal on my phone and this one is using my phone’s WebView, so it takes less space. There are some drawbacks for sure with this one, but I can cope with them.

Currently I’m using Chromite (added some more blocklists),
Fennac (hardened as much as I can),
and Brave ( I known I known. I only use it when some website just don’t work)
