    “From related writings, we can deduce that this item was a ritual object used in the worship of Priapus, god of gardens and livestock among other things. Apparently priapic rituals involved drinking wine and thrusting the ritual object in particular ways, which worshippers believed would lead them to actually see the god. Notably, the ritual objects were often dedicated to a close friend, whose name would be engraved on the object in question.”
