It actually was pretty easy. All I did was install Fennec and then tweak a few settings.

  • I switched the browsing protection to strict

  • I installed ublock origin

  • I went to about:config and enabled resist fingerprinting

I ran some fingerprinting tests and my slightly modified Fennec performs about the same as Mull

Can we please get an Arkenfox-like for mobile? I LOVE Librewolf and I just wish they would make a mobile version. Or if Mullvad Browser had a mobile version.

I spent the whole day figuring this out, i did the same as you with fennec and hardening. Took some inspiration from arkenfox and betterfox and thats about it.

Edit: its sad, but such is life i guess. I loved mull.

No warranties or guarantees of security or updates or even stability!

Yeah that is not confidence inspiring. I don’t need it to be perfect but a web browser needs to focus on security instead of just winging it.

Even that warning I never really faced issues with the browser(but still a concern).

If Iceraven was something I wanted or needed I might be ok with it. As it stands I don’t see the use case for me personally.

    Where are you downloading Fennec?

I see F-droid has a certain version available, is this the one you use?

“Fennec F-Droid is based on the latest Mozilla Firefox release. It has proprietary bits and telemetry removed, but still connects to various Mozilla services that can track users.”

      F-droid

I don’t think the telemetry us that big of deal but I also have no idea how to turn it off.

They’re already off. The Fennec builds on F-Droid apparently don’t even have the option to turn telemetry on – it’s not in the build.

Go to about:telemetry in the URL bar and it should say that telemetry upload is disabled.

I’d like to use a browser based on Gecko but they’re far behind than Chromium based browsers in matter of security unfortunately

In terms of number of CVEs Firefox is better. The real danger of mobile Firefox is that it doesn’t implement sandboxing which means that a security vulnerability can be very bad. However, Android sandboxes apps already so the chances of long term impact are low.

I would love to see Mozilla implement a proper security sandboxing in mobile Firefox. Instead we get AI and ads. I can’t use Chromium since it no longer properly supports Mv2
