Seems logical to me. Over nine million people in New Jersey, but I only need 800 to get on a ballot? There’s no link to the legislation, did they hard-code the numbers, or make it a percentage of population?
Except that hasn’t happened. This is a response to Dems being unpopular for anyone that doesn’t have a Reagan tattoo.
This stifles third parties and independents, forcing candidates to follow either dem or Republican party lines, both of which are deeply unpopular ideologies, thus lowering engagement and political choice.

So being a one party state should be further entrenched in the US.
Allowing anybody with a pulse to run for a statewide office won’t fix that, and actually makes it easier to game the system.
