Rediscovering Lost Dragon Ball RPG for Japanese Feature Phones

A piece of retro gaming history has been saved by the efforts of video game hacker and archivist YuviApp. He managed to preserve three previously lost Dragon Ball i-mode games, including Dragon Ball RPG, Dragon Ball RPG Trial, and Dragon Ball Wars.

These titles were at risk of disappearing due to no longer being commercially available on obsolete hardware.

  • Dragon Ball RPG: Released for i-mode phones in 2008, it followed the original Dragon Ball manga storyline by Akira Toriyama. A sequel, Super Dragon Ball RPG, was released in 2010.

  • Dragon Ball Wars: Another simulation RPG that appeared around the same time, this time similar to the Super Robot Wars series.

  • The trial version of Dragon Ball RPG is available now, as YuviApp works on reverse engineering the network for the full version to make it accessible.

What was it like to play these feature-phone games?
