    “I don’t believe X” is not necessarily a statement about X. This is a prime example of it. They dismissed no evidence, they simply stated they don’t believe something that there’s plenty of reasons to find unlikely. ✌️

      Right, bigotry isn’t actually about the quality being marginalized, it’s about reinforcing a desired hierarchy using whatever distinctions are most convenient and salient. Hard to paint them as bigots when they themselves are minorities; easier (and far more rhetorically salient) to simply deny their trans identity altogether.
