    huh

    new precedent fork?

    1. Meta loses case and AI training on copyrighted materials becomes illegal.
    2. Meta wins case and piracy becomes legal.

    Surely I’m missing something right?

      1. Settling for damages, no admission of wrongdoing.

      2. Meta erodes argument via legal technicalities and wins/loses, but the legality of piracy doesn’t factor into the decision. No real precedent is set and fines are worth the potential profit so nothing notable changes.

        Good catch!

Meta might choose #3 as they can probably negotiate between themselves and the publishers screwing over the authors as it’s probably the cheapest route for them.

Although it wouldn’t be out of the question for them to choose #4.
