A coup is underway in the United States, and we must stop pretending otherwise. The signs are unmistakable and accelerating: in just the past 48 hours, Elon Musk’s DOGE commission has seized control of Treasury payment systems and gained unauthorized access to classified USAID materials, while security officials who followed protocols were removed. Career civil servants across agencies are being systematically purged for having followed legal requirements during previous administrations. The president openly declares he won’t enforce laws he dislikes, while Congress watches in complicit silence. This isn’t happening through tanks in the streets or soldiers at government buildings—it’s occurring through the systematic dismantling of constitutional governance and its replacement with a system of personal loyalty to private interests. Those who resist are being removed, while those who enable this transformation are being rewarded with unprecedented control over government functions. The time for euphemisms and careful hedging has passed. We are watching, in real time, the conversion of constitutional democracy into something darker and more dangerous. To pretend otherwise isn’t prudence—it’s complicity.

Nope… Stop pretending this man hasnt been DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED TWICE. There were rallys, there was election day, it wasnt sudden, it wasnt violent and they handed the reins over to him. Sure he is making a mockery of your laws and justice system but thats been happening for the rich and powerful for years already, this isnt new. They just arent putting it behind a veneer of respectability anymore.

Yeah, there are other widely accepted definitions as well.

“A coup d’état (/ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/ ⓘ; French: [ku deta] ⓘ; lit. ‘stroke of state’),[1] or simply a coup, is typically an illegal and overt attempt by a military organization or other government elites to unseat an incumbent leadership.[2][3] A self-coup is when a leader, having come to power through legal means, tries to stay in power through illegal means.[3]”

“A coup d’état, often abbreviated to coup, is the overthrow of a lawful government through illegal means. If force or violence are not involved, such an event is sometimes called a soft or bloodless coup.”

Stop pretending that years of voter suppression don’t exist.

Pretending Democracy is being served is a disservice considering voter suppression, gerrymandering, and a broken first past the post system that has lead to this. This is not the will of the of the people.

This also ignores that the majority of our news and information is controlled so that makes informed voting even harder.

I think this act that were deserve this is disingenuous and probably is born out of a propaganda campaign to get people to accept what is going on under false pretenses.

Is it really a coup though? He was quite clear about what he intended before the election, and this is apparently what the people wanted.

In theory. In practice it all rests on the executive power of the office of the President. I give it 1-3 more Mooches for Trump and Elon to be at each others throats, not because they are working at cross purposes but because they both cant stand the other stepping in the way of their spotlight. Donald is likely going to strike first, so anyone looking to accelerate this process should be making sure he knows how much attention the other is getting.
