I have tried this and it doesn’t seem to work.
I created an account here on Lemmy.zip, then created a community. Then I went to a different lemmy server, created an account there, did exactly what you just recommended, found the community I created here, and joined it and posted something to it. The post doesn’t show up here under the community I created here. As far as this server is concerned, that post to the community here doesn’t exist.
From my account on the other server, I see the post that was created here and the post that was created there. But from my account on this server, I see only the post that was created here.
Maybe it’s just lag? 30 minutes seems like more than lag.
It could also depend on community size and other factors. also, the admins could restrict federation. My guess is that it is based on the hosting service/device they use. What instance is it?
