We have new members because of people fleeing, I’m seeing communities being archived, and just generally more than the regular Reddit being Reddit.

Has the end come in some way?

Several new accounts made direct targeted death threats at specific people working alongside Musk to destroy the US government. As this is not legal in the USA where the servers are Reddit axed the subs where this occurred. You can conclude for yourself why new accounts were doing this.

There were some NSFW subs that also got axed. Reddit has done this before and used the sane excuse of it being a bug. Again you can choose to decide if they are being honest about this but keep in mind Spez, the CEO, has repeatedly mentioned how difficult it is to legally manage NSFW material on the site and how investors hate it.

AFAIK This is only technically true, IIRC, back then, mods could add anyone they wanted as a moderator for their subreddit without the user in question having any say in it.

So the jailbait mods thought that it would be funny to add spez to the mod list as a joke

I mean that was one case but what about hiring a known pedofile as a moderator and censoring all posts and comments that tried bringing it to the admins attention. Forgive me I’ll have to find her name and source but it was another thing that was mass deleted so ill do it in an edit.

Before that there was the r/fatpeoplehate banning when they started pulling offensive and inappropriate subreddits in multiple seperate waves of bans. This was where the spez is a pedo really picked up steam because every wave of banned subs brought more and more people asking why is subreddit r/dadadadada banned but r/Pedofriends is around to stay active. A subreddit for pedofiles to discuss their pedofilia and I peaked in there one time and holy fuck me sideways, it was a subreddit advocating for pedofiles having the right to fuck kids because they couldn’t help that their brain didn’t find legal people attractive. That was the darkest corner of the internet instance ever care to see and the moment I think back to anytime I have the slightest urge to check out the darkweb because if that’s how dark it got on the surface than fuck finding out how dark the actual depths can be.

Alright if you wanna be sarcastic about it I am happy to respond with equal derision.

Grow up and stop trusting the words of a petulant CEO who has repeatedly shown how much disdain they have for their own users and has openly praised Elon Musk saying he wants to run Reddit more like he runs his businesses. Huffman is an asshole, a bad person, and a bad CEO. Taking his word on these issues is colossally naïve of you.

Im sure you know all about these situations. Im sure at no point has a site like Tumblr gone through the exact same issues with NSFW and publicly discussed that they faced these issues because of investors and credit card payment processors. Nope, I must be some poorly informed naive person who is accepting what Spez said uncritically rather than comparing it to a well documented similar problem that another website faced.

On the issue of direct targeted death threats why not try making one similar to those posts in a different public forum like facebook and see how fast your account gets banned. This one is common sense as you cannot legally call for the deaths of a specific person in the usa. If you lack the ability to read between the lines Im saying I believe the new accounts were created to make these threats so the sub could get shut down because WPT was anti-Musk/Trump

Yes I do know about all these situations. I was a moderator for a major sub for nearly a decade until the API fiasco. Of course the more I explain why I would know these things the more you’re going to come after me for “name dropping“ or cringe flexing or whatever. Hell you could probably just say “I don’t believe you” and move on. But I actually knew several Reddit Admins very well, including many who have been fired or left due to the way things have gone.

Huffman is a bad person and you should not trust him.

Nothing you list would make you informed about these situations. I modded subs for years so you aren’t taking about hidden knowledge there.

Knowing admins means what exactly? They aren’t having the conversation about if porn is on the platform or not. They likely aren’t deciding which subs get axed either as that should be handled by an executive not an admin.

Im not arguing Huffman is a good person only that Reddit wasn’t acting entirely unreasonably in these cases again based on publicly available information regarding why Tumblr axed porn.

Stop giving Huffman (or his shithole site) the benefit of the doubt. You’re being naive. He has shown us exactly the kind of person he is.

I’ll continue thinking you have no idea what you’re talking about compared to the information you can find online about these situations.

No because those threads have been nuked. When you see accounts calling for the deaths of specific people you should click on them because they often are new. This is true for any forum.

Don’t take this personally, but this is c/OutOfTheLoop, not c/Conjecture.

“trust me bro” isn’t helpful in these threads. For example, you went from “they are new accounts doing this” to “it’s often new accounts”. Wild difference.

Edit: downvoted for trying to be accurate, nice. In this thread someone replied that their 5 year old account got banned, which is hardly new: https://lemmy.world/comment/14984232
