If Russia scares you so much then maybe you shouldn’t have all but declared war on Russia? Maybe you shouldn’t have given billions of euros and heavy weaponry to Nazis for the sole purpose of killing Russians? Maybe instead of antagonizing and attacking Russia you should have tried getting along with them? Crazy concept, i know.

I realize this is posted on lemmygrad, so I suppose pro-Russia takes are to be expected. But would you mind explaining to me how you justify Russia attacking/threatening to attack other countries when there was 0 chance they would have been attacked by another nation? Are you really claiming that what they re doing is a form of self-defense when they undoubtedly would have been left alone by the EU/NATO, had they not tried to take over a neighboring state?

That reasoning seems ridiculous to me.

“Undoubtedly” is doing a lot of work there. When NATO helped coup Qaddafi it demonstrated that it is perfectly willing to be used as a regime change tool by the US. “We came, we saw, he died!” Once that happened, Russia could no longer consider NATO to be a peaceful neighbor and had to defend its national interests. It was only a matter of time until they came for Russia next.

What countries did Russia attack or threaten to attack? It’s NATO that broke its promise over and over again to stop expanding to the east. It’s NATO that keeps taking over more and more countries to install missile bases pointed at Russia. It’s NATO that engineered a coup for Nazis to take over Ukraine, NATO who arms and funds those Nazis to bomb and murder Russians, and NATO who helps those Nazis commit terrorist attacks against Russian civilians. It’s NATO politicians who regularly talk of bleeding Russia, weakening Russia, inflicting a defeat on Russia, of regime changing Russia, even of breaking up Russia into a dozen different states.

They openly discuss at “summits” and conferences their desire to destroy Russia, and they are so shameless and arrogant that they think they can disguise this intent by abusing the term “decolonization”, even as Europe (which still to this day has colonial possessions it clings to) and the US are literally engaged in the neo-colonial exploitation and subjugation of most of the global south.

All this after the whole world saw how they bombed and destroyed Yugoslavia, how they bombed and destroyed Libya, how they bombed, occupied and starved Syria and then armed, funded and trained terrorists to take it over, and you have the audacity to come here and tell us that NATO doesn’t pose a threat to Russia? You say there is zero chance of another country attacking Russia, but NATO had already attacked Russia twice through proxies even before the shit NATO pulled in Ukraine in 2014. They attacked Russia through a US sponsored terrorist insurgency in Chechnya, and through a US instigated invasion by Georgia of South Ossetia (a conflict for which even an EU investigation admitted Georgia was the aggressor).

Not only is what Russia is doing self-defense, they are acting according to their humanitarian duty to protect the ethnic Russian people in Ukraine from genocide and ethnic cleansing at the hands of the Banderite Nazi regime installed by NATO. They are doing in Ukraine what the world should be doing in occupied Palestine: liberating it from genocidal fascists.

I’ll tell you what seems ridiculous to me: for the world to tolerate the existence of such murderous Nazi regimes as Ukraine and “Israel” on this planet after the millions of people who died in WW2 to eradicate this vile ideology. NATO apparently has no problem with that (and we know why - because NATO was founded by Nazis and continues to include Nazis in its ranks who share the same dreams as Hitler did of eastward expansion into Russia), but Russia will not and cannot tolerate on its border the existence of a hyper-militarized Nazi regime that is hellbent on destroying everything Russian.

And before you try to deny that this is really a Nazi regime, here are some openly acknowledged facts:

NATO’s puppet regime in Kiev banned the Russian language, banned Russian media, banned pro-Russian political parties, imprisoned and murdered journalists and activists, burned Russian books, renamed Russian towns, destroyed Russian historical monuments, forced ethnic Russians to speak Ukrainian, renamed streets after WW2 Nazi collaborators, celebrated and declared as national heroes those Nazi collaborators and war criminals who sadistically butchered hundreds of thousands of Jews, Poles, Russians and other Ukrainians.

They taught children in schools to hate Russians, trained children to repeat Nazi slogans, replaced historical school books with ones written by hate-filled nationalist extremists peddling revisionist history and lies about Russia and Ukraine in order to create enmity and hate between two brotherly peoples, they sent Nazi paramilitary thugs from western Ukraine with tanks and artillery to occupy and violently repress ethnic Russian regions that wanted autonomy and protection from all of this Nazi crap, and they relentlessly bombed the cities that they couldn’t occupy because the people there picked up arms and defended themselves… and that was all before 2022, before Russia finally intervened to protect the people of the Donbass.

Germany needs to be broken apart into little principalities. A unified Germany is something the world, especially Palestinians, are still paying for.

Why are they so surprised that Russia is building its military when it is actively at war. How is that concerning? That’s what happens.

Also, all this fear mongering around Russia pushing past Ukraine into the rest of Europe is hilarious because I highly doubt that will ever happen. Once the war is over and Russia doesn’t do that, what will European leaders do? How will they justify everything they’ve done? People are so scared, and when they realize their fears were unfounded, what then?

Easy. Say slashing social benefits and increasing defense spending as well as supporting Ukraine worked. That Ukraine weakened Russia enough and NATO increased their defense enough that they’ve successfully dissuaded them from attacking …for now. Which is why even more money must be given to the war machine and suspicion and hatred of Russians must continue because it’s only a momentary reprieve.

How many people believe this at the end when all is said and done is a big question mark but that’s how they’d spin it and there are a kind of liberal who will nod along and absolutely believe this.

This is exactly what’s gonna happen. That’s what scares ME. This is why we (communists) need to organise and mobilize all over Europe. Funnily enough, Trump’s tariffs are actually playing in our favour and will help us FINALLY distance ourselves from the US (hopefully forever)

Russia pushing past Ukraine is pure nonsense. It’s almost certain that Russia will not even want to hold all of Ukraine. However, the economic destruction of Europe over the past three years absolutely opens up the way for Russia to exert power over European politics now. People across Europe are now starting to realize what an utter debacle the war was, and that it has real consequences for them personally as they watch their standard of living collapse. This is naturally driving a backlash against the political establishment in Europe, and leading to parties that want to normalize relations with Russia becoming increasingly popular. So in a way this is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy, except Russia might be able to gain political capture of Europe without having to actually invade Europe.

Quite easily actually: “The only reason why Russia hasn’t invaded us is because we showed them in Ukraine not to mess with us.” Or any of a thousand other variations of that sort of cope. There is always a way to spin the narrative so that a defeat looks like a victory, so that the lie can be maintained. It’s all too easy because Russia cannot disprove a negative no matter what they do. “Only if we do X, Y, Z will Russia not attack us.” - “See, Russia did not attack, and that is only because we did X, Y, Z; which proves that we were right all along and Russia would have attacked if we didn’t do X, Y, Z.” It’s impossible to falsify because it’s based on a hypothetical that didn’t happen.

Most of the European leaders can’t possibly believe what they’ve been saying in public. If they did they’d have declared states of emergency and diverted their manufacturing base from butter to guns.

I wouldn’t be so sure. For the French and the Poles it probably is more cynical than earnest, but when i hear how the Baltics or the Germans talk, i think they might actually be so deranged that they truly believe it. And the British elites have wanted to destroy Russia for nearly two hundred years now, nothing has changed there.

Its funny they send all this NATO aid and make Ukraine into a proxy war and now theyre like shitting themselves because Russia didnt crumble under the pressure. Like wtf did you expect Russia to do? Its basically at war with the west and you didnt expect them to increase military production??
