They also renamed Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America in Google maps, at least for USA users.

    Why? WHY!

How is someone’s life so small that they spend their time getting angry about another person’s differently-colored skin‽ Or their goddamn genitals!

I hope the next plague kills us all. We don’t deserve the beauty of life.

    • MAGAts are whiny morons. They’re also borderline obsessed with other people to the point that they should probably be on a list or something. Tracked at the very least.

Source: I grew up in the South, Alabama specifically.

There’s an asteroid that MIGHT hit earth in 2032, so we can look forward to that ( it’s only at a 2.2% right now).

There are good people in your life. Share good things with them and try to be as good to them as you can. Social media only amplifies the negative. Things are bad right now, but not all bad. Don’t despair.

I know it’s cheesy, but I really believe it: love is the answer.

Personally I don’t want my calander cluttered. I also am annoyed with June 19th. They misspelled it on my calendar app and it’s not a company holiday. I can’t remove it.

The better point would be to have google let you delete holidays and events from the calendar if you want to. Let the decision be in the users hands.

      NextCloud.

And you can argue how it’s different, and that’s the point! You want something different, right? … Right?

That’s the thing, you’ll have to de Google your entire life, which is really involved and tedious , especially if you want free alternatives. Not saying it’s impossible, but you’re talking about ditching a lot of services. Realistically, there aren’t good alternatives to YouTube and some other services. I know people will try to pitch fediverse alternatives. While promising, the problem is that the historical content that is really useful just isn’t there. Additionally, it fails in comparison in terms the amount of content offered. It sucks to see Google bend the knee so easily.

It’s usually included in any email setup.

I think most paid email providers also include calendar, contacts, etc. I know Proton does, but I also know their CEO is praising the 4th Reich, so I dunno.

You can also self host something.

Self hosting email is a dead end, you’ll spend half your free time trying to get your domain not marked as spam by every other email service provider.

Filtering spam is a long solved problem and completely trivial. I receive no spam on my self hosted email, and I spend no time at all working on that.

My old unused gmail account however… I recently logged in after more than a year. The spam folder had about 40 emails in it, and the inbox had more than 8000, all of which were spam. Google over self hosting is not a solution to spam.
