Why should a road lane that can serve 20 drivers get priority over a side walk that can serve 200 people ?

We can’t build cars for everyone, there are not enough resources on earth for that. We can build high quality public transport for everyone and have enough resources left for the minority of cases where public transportation doesn’t work (you ain’t taking the bus to the hospital in an emergency).
