“Trumpism will not be defeated by politicians inside the DC beltway. It will only be defeated by millions of Americans, in every state in this country, coming together in a strong, grassroots movement which says no to oligarchy, no to authoritarianism, no to kleptocracy, no to massive cuts in programs that working people desperately need, no to huge tax breaks for the richest people in our country.”
i certainly hope so and that this road doesn’t pass through too much tyranny and injustice before bringing us to our desired destination.
I’m looking for reasons to be optimistic and coming up short; but if democracy really did survive, overcome, and adapt to fascism’s latest iteration, what a glorious start to a new chapter of our history that would be. I hope we live in that time line. Democracy winning would inspire in me a hope for the future that I have not believed in for decades.
Unless I’m misreading, “we are on the road” is with respect to “I and other progressives will be holding grassroots events” (from the article’s lede) and not “we as a country are heading towards…”. That is, the more stalwart Democrats are holding events around the country about how to combat the current administration.
