Pence has a point but he’s lying too. Russia -was- provoked by Bush, Bush Jr, Obama, and even Biden. They all kept moving Nato closer to Russia, and Russia loudly complained, but was ignored. So Pence is a liar too.
I do understand that side of it, Russia’s perspective and the West’s callous indifference to it. I think there’s quite a lot of reality to that. That doesn’t mean they’re all of a sudden justified for bombing apartment buildings, hospitals, and power stations in the middle of winter. Right is right and wrong is wrong. A lot of the US internal decision-making was that fucking up Nicaragua and Vietnam was perfectly justified, because we were scared. Did that become right? Fuck no, it was a war crime. So is Ukraine.

What Putin did, invading Georgia, Crimea, and Ukraine was wrong. But Putin was definitely provoked.
