Thought y’all might find this interesting, if you like automotive tech.
We all know automakers want to keep tabs on their cars. Stolen vehicle tracking? Sure. Fleet management? Fine. Microphone eavesdropping to serve more ads? Hate it, but OK, that’s a thing.
Hold onto your tin-foil hats: Ford just published a patent for something that takes vehicle tracking into full-blown Twilight Zone territory.
(If this sort of post is unwelcome, just let me know and I can remove it, or y’all can remove it with no worries.)
I came up with this idea more than 20 years ago as a way for cars to tell each other about events ahead of them. Imagine if you’re on a two-lane road heading away from an deer and you pass vehicles going the opposite direction. Your car could relay that information to then and have it age out after a few minutes.
It’s like flashing your lights at oncoming traffic to warn them of a speed trap ahead
Exactly!
Ford, if y’all are reading this, maybe just let us drive. Try and (Ford) Focus on building a half-way respectable transmission.
It’s Ford, I don’t think they can. 2000 Ford Escort shifted like someone who didn’t know how to drive a manual. Various models from 2018 to 2022ish of trucks / vans, weird as hell shifting choices, harsh shifts, and weird jitters on take off. 2016 Focus, pretty sure the transmission was slipping. It was right around 90k miles.
If you only ever drove Fords, you would think “AGUGGUUUG” was a natural sound for an automatic to make 😂That’s innovation, Tesla should take notes!
