Black and white pencils, gel pen on toned paper.
Beautiful.
May I ask what medium you’re using for the white?
Thanks!
I’m using Derwent tinted charcoal for the chalky white and white gel pen for spot highlights.
Another banger! The expression is fantastic as is the line work.
Thanks, BallShapedMan! I love drawing portraits that give one the side-eye :)
What draws you to that? I have no idea why I like the stuff I like to draw, so no idea why I’m asking but I am 😂
I think it’s because 3/4 portraits are fun to draw (and maybe easier?), and when the subject makes eye contact with the viewer it somehow comes across as meaningful or knowing. That’s my take, at least.
Love it, thank you! I’m new to portraits so I’m trying to learn as much as I can from those who clearly have it figured out!
How long have you been doing portraits?
Your work is awesome!
Thanks!
I used to do some portraiture years ago, but picked it back up during the pandemic lockdowns. All told–fewer than 5 years of practice? I’ll dig up some old drawings one day.
Oh, that is nice! Love the hair in this one, and the gel pen pops still.
