I would very strongly discourage this in a code review. Not saying I’d disallow it, but I would make an argument against it.
i and j are very meaningful as are a and b. By shortening the line of code you’re allowing everything else to be more easily comprehended.
A 1080p monitor shouldn’t be your guide; 80 chars should. It’s just standard that over time you get used to reading faster. And I’m 4k, but always have 3 columns of code open.
