Good morning. 🌸🌸🐝

There are certain behaviors among Americans that annoy the rest of us. One such behavior that comes to mind is littering. A significant portion of our population will just toss garbage onto the side of the road. McDonald’s bags along the roadside are indicative of this behavior, and I always think, ‘Really? You can’t wait until there’s a trash can available?’ Another glaring example is the person who empties their car’s ashtray onto the ground in a parking lot. Bottles, cans, and wrappers—oh my! Speaking of wrappers, the last people I hired to do some work on my yard left candy wrappers here and there, which I had to pick up. The irony was that their job was to rake leaves and pick up tree debris.
“There aren’t many things that are universally cool, and it’s cool not to litter. I’d never do it.” - Matthew McConaughey

@Swede1952@universeodon.com You often see the “party in the parking lot.” Fast food packaging and a couple of 40 oz beer cans or bottles. Maybe some cigarette butts or an empty vape too.
That’s true.
@Swede1952@universeodon.com I hadn’t published it anywhere, but I was starting a photo series titled, “people are trash”, recording the garbage that I picked up while hiking up a mountain. Invariably I would fill up a single grocery bag full of trash before even making it halfway up.
It is sad. The main road that I live off of is kind of out of the way, so it is a magnet for litter. Some people literally come out this way to dump things. Every now and then, the local sheriff’s department will bring prisons out pic the stuff up.
@Swede1952@universeodon.com it’s the same phenomenon over here. Sad.
@Swede1952@universeodon.com the question is: would they do so in their own garden? I guess they wouldn’t. It’s just in public spaces that ppl don’t care. Obviously thinking that ‘somebody’ will pick it up. Strange mindset.
Hmmm … it pains me to say, they might. People only know what they know. I’ve been places where folks will sit on their own porch and flick cigarette butts into their own yard, along with bottle caps, pull tabs, even cans though most cans would actually make it into a garbage cans. It is the way everybody that they know behaves. It is mostly a symptom of poverty, I think, though I couldn’t begin to tell you why.
@Swede1952@universeodon.com you’re right, it’s a riddle of sorts. Cause being poor is in itself not connected to being ‘dirty’. Maybe some kind of : ‘nobody cares about me so I don’t care about whatever it is neither’. Who knows.
