I would have said that Trump is escalating, and not that he’s retaliating. Because he’s the one who imposed tariffs, and the Canadians retaliated, and if you want to say that he’s retaliating because they retaliated, it seems like you’re forgetting where the initial blame lies.

What a petty piece of shit. They’re retaliating because you’re being an unreasonable fuck, you old diaper-shitting asshole.

Ah yes; increase tariffs on the industries that will recover the easiest, because you can’t just up and move where you mine resources. They’re, notably, in the ground. You can’t just relocate a steel mine south of the border.

And no other major producer of those materials will ever be able to compete with Canada in the US long term because we don’t have to ship our stuff over one of the world’s two largest oceans to get it to market.

The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians’ taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that. The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World — And your brilliant anthem, “O Canada,” will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!

He really doesn’t seem to comprehend the consequences of that “51st state” garbage. It’s doing a great job pissing off Canadians, inspiring patriotism and unifying them.

The very same Canadians who constitute a decent slice of our tourism. The ones who import our agriculture and goods, and are now preferring to buy local voluntarily. They forgot/forgave the economic strong-arming bullshit from his last run, but they’re not going to forget the relentless threats of being annexed.

He wants to start a war he thinks he can win. He does know the consequence. That’s why security around Mara Lago is so much higher this time. It’s still a security nightmare, but they’re trying.

The only way Trump’s actions make any consistent sense as all is as an attempt to ruin the USA and its allies for the benefit of Vladimir Putin. There’s just no other theory that explains all the data points.

Yeah. If it was just dementia, stupidity, and narcissism, it wouldn’t benefit Putin almost 100% of the time.

Being quite dim and narcissistic, Trump may not be aware that he’s consistently doing Putin’s bidding. If Russia can get intermediaries to put the right words in Trump’s ear, they could play Trump while letting him believe he’s just having his own brilliant ideas.

Yeah, I don’t think Trump is knowingly a Russian asset because it isn’t necessary for him to knowingly be a Russian asset. He’s just a fanboi and “business partner” of Putin who is vulnerable to his manipulative suggestion, and that’s enough.

In this case, I wouldn’t be surprised if Putin simply gloated about how Russia was going to benefit from global warming opening up the Northeast Passage and said “you could have the same thing too by controlling the Northwest Passage; too bad Greenland and Canada are in the way,” then just let Trump’s megalomania take over the rest.

The original source, as posted by Demented Don:

Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on “Electricity” coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th. Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous. I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA! Also, Canada pays very little for National Security, relying on the United States for military protection. We are subsidizing Canada to the tune of more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. WHY??? This cannot continue. Yes, Donald Trump making the worst possible decisions and then doubling down on them just a couple of days later. I pity anybody who’s gonna get laid off because of this bullshit but unfortunately, this is what America voted for … a maniac who doesn’t give a shit about anybody
