just want to get back into mastodon with an instance that doesn’t defederate, so I can follow anything.

Unfortunately there’s no mastodon instance that will not be heavily defederated. Even if a mastodon instance decides to be very politically correct and non-controversial and not block controversial instances, they will then be blocked for not blocking “problematic instances”
