There’s only an option to display the thumbnail on the right side, but no option to hide it completely.

Just some questions to understand a bit more of what you’re looking for: Would this setting just keep the text associated with a post? How would you prefer posts to be distinguished (between it being an image, text, or link)

I think one place the indicator can be placed would be beside the community name and the instance that it’s from. For example: thunder_app • lemmy.world • Post thunder_app • lemmy.world • Image thunder_app • lemmy.world • Link thunder_app • lemmy.world • gizmodo.com
