The Pop! os screenshot tool works fine, but the screencast video is not working correctly as of late. How do I repair this?

It either records nothing (zero kb) or part a file. Or if I use it once then it refuses to do any more, so 3 errors in total. See video link, it was 15 seconds but recorded less before it stopped.

I have basic terminal ability to asist.

By the way the image is not mine it is just for reference.

Pop is using wayland, you can test if it is a wayland issue by changing the session to classic gnome at the login screen after selecting user and before entering password, the cog changes the session, i believe classic gnome is still an option.

Wayland support for gnome screen recorder is still fairly new, so may be buggy. It may be a recent update to pipewire that is causing the issue.

Things may have moved along since this article was written, but says it only supports revording in webm format so check thats set up right. The article also has a list of other wayland compatible screen recorders you can switch to in the interim until gnomes one works for you again.

Im afraid im not technically savvy enough to help more than that, i hope you get it sorted! :)

Pop is not using Wayland yet … the current GNOME based DE still uses Xorg. COSMIC, however, will use Wayland.
