I was on the fence for decades about statins; but now that they’re on the 4$ list at Walmart, I feel slightly more comfortable saying that statins are a miracle drug. They talked a big game but have actually been able to back it up.
Reversing atherosclerotic plaque deposition is probably one of the very few major medical breakthroughs of my lifetime. Your cholesterol numbers are not really relevant, we are all at risk of heart disease here in burger kingdom. If you’re over 40 you should probably be on a statin.

No drugs are miracle drugs. Statins have side effects, and while a net benefit for some, while not be a net benefit for others. Changing diet to an actually healthy one, where doable, should take priority over mass prescription of drugs.
I’ll be sure to let all the type one diabetics know there are no such things as miracle drugs, and I’m sure everyone with congenital hyperlipidemias will be relieved to know they can just eat salads from here on out.
