    There are also slips for example in Luke when Jesus is 12 and Mary refers to them both as his parents (in the oldest manuscripts).

    In any case the story doesn’t show up to about 50 years after the supposed crucifixion, and resembles Greco-Roman virgin birth stories that were circulating at the time. Additionally there is no clear path to how that story could have been transmitted since it would have required the Ministry to go back to the parents and pick it up.

    Very likely the author of Matthew Gospel was dealing with several contradictions and cobbled them together.
