6 years ago is a lot of time for internalized opinions to manifest. Especially now with how much ideology is thrown about and available on the internet and the state of the country, people who used to think “lol politics don’t matter” are slowly realizing otherwise.
Furthermore 6 years is way before pre-trump rightwing radicalization so someone who had fascist tendencies internalized may have been much less vocal about it until fairly recently.
Hell 2020 alone brought a lot of internal racism to the surface in otherwise dull politically parts of the population.
