Full URL links to communities appear to open fine - even if the instance isn’t aware of that community (hurray! thank you for this, it’s ace!)
However, links with exclamation marks seem to try to open a user.
I’m going to try putting one in here, but I’m posting from kbin so it might go a bit weird or not exhibit the same problem.
!lemmings
Ok, that link worked 😕
I’ve seen it often when the exclamation mark doesn’t get highlighted and it tries to open as a user.
Try again
Ah, that worked. “API error: couldn’t find object” The exclamation mark didn’t get highlighted. It didn’t appear to try to open as a user though. Maybe this is a slightly different problem, caused by that link being a Kbin magazine - and it’s trying to open it as /c/ instead of /m/ ?
It seems like the link you provided works just Like intended, altho I definerly have seen that bug. I think it was at a link sth like this one (links with ! and @):
[email protected]I think Kbin converted it to a full link! Should have created this thread with Lemmy really (btw, Chris/floppy in this thread is also me)
Yes, that does it - could not find a user with username ich_iel
Yeah I noticed the same thing. I could be wrong, but I thought this used to work in a previous version.
I also remember that this worked at a point, but it doesn’t anymore. It’s always the format with the ! exclamation point in front. @[email protected] If you are looking for examples, basically all links in https://lemmy.world/c/newcommunities don’t work. They’re in the format
I am now realizing that Connect also screws up the link formatting for this style when posting
Most links have been working fine for me recently, although I still occasionally see this error. However, it appears that links to kbin magazines don’t work at all. I suspect Connect is searching for server/c/community and not retrying with server/m/community when it gets an error back.
Do you have an example of a working link? Because all ! links don’t work for me currently. I always get the ‘user not found’ Page, so it interprets them without the !
The ones in !trendingcommunities
…which I see now are local links with /c/ so not the issue we’re discussing here!
