As me and many others, you might have encountered the problem, that tapping on a comment in your inbox doesn’t get you to the comment and it’s context. However, you can actually directly jump from the comments inbox to the correct comment + context in the post.
Check the image. First long press on the upvotes/time on the top right, to have the lower bar expanded. Then press on the chain link button below to directly open the post!
It was hard to find and know unless you already know it. This definitely needs UX improvement. Hence, this post here.
First long press on the upvotes/time on the top right, to have the lower bar expanded.
Just FYI, you can long press anywhere on the body of the comment and don’t have to specifically on the upvote/time.
Hm… that doesn’t work for me :/
Not sure if this is because it was fixed in a newer version. I am using 0.0.34 from the Github repo. What about you? Here’s a video in action.
Interesting. I have 33 instead of 34 but can’t update it via play store 🤔
The most recent version is only available on GitHub at the moment
Great tip, thanks! Gotta say, as rough around the edges as Jerboa is sometimes, I’m really impressed with how well it handles most things already! A few months of refining UI/UX will result in a really solid app.
Awesome! This has been puzzling me. Thanks!
Thanks OP! A bit awkward to get too but it’ll do the trick.
How’d you find that? This is Easter egg level hidden.
Trial and error. I knew that this must exist
Can we get like, an entire magazine or large post of tips and tricks like this for using a federated platform? I’m very new to all this and I understand there are going to be growing pains and a learning curve, but the sooner I know how to use little shortcuts/things like this the easier and better it’ll be to adapt :)
here is one for kbin https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/52838/A-starting-guide-to-kbin-social-support-thread-for-new-users
I think lemmy has a documentation website, and even though it’s called documentation, it can be helpful when you want to add a community that’s not already searchable.
I do have a tip for kbin too, which is to visit your Settings sooner than later and opt into notifications so you can actually be able to respond back to people. The default is very barebones which I guess is good
Unfortunately, it seems the settings do little to impact on mobile, where I spent 99% of my kbin/Lemmy (previously reddit) time.
My feed won’t show my sub and always defaults to All and I do not get notifications - despite settings being selected and saved.
Hopefully soon we see some QOL fixes as we progress - or better yet some sweet, sweet apps.
Oh I browse on mobile on the browser too. I think you can click the button with the 3 lines and click Subscribed instead of All to get your subs.
This is also janky atm, but if you want to see your list of the magazines you subscribed to, there actually is a way xD You click Profile, then there’s a bunch of metrics (number of boosts you did, threads you made, etc. ), and you scroll to the right until you see “Subscribed”. When you click that, it shows your magazines so you can go to them. I’m sure they’ll make this a lot easier to get to in the future
What notifications do you have?
I have this
X Notify me of comments in my threadsX Notify me of replies to my threads comments
X Notify me of replies in my posts
X Notify me of replies to my posts comments
Notify me of new threads in a subscribed magazine <- I actually deselected this because I got too many notifications for me to look through
Notify me of new posts in a subscribed magazine
Oh, hell yeah. Now, how do I open a link to a post on a different instance than mine from within my instance (also without getting sent to my browser)?
For me it just works. But maybe it’s because I made this Android setting?
Ah okay. Looks like it will only work for certain instances. I don’t think I can add any others besides these ones.
If Jerboa can follow comment links from the inbox natively, why does it let Android handle the links everywhere else? Maybe Jerboa could insert a little link button next to every hyperlink so that you can choose whether to open a link with Android or natively with Jerboa.
