Setting is enable. On version 0.5(3). From feed, if I click on an image thumbnail, it will not mark the post as read like it did before.
EDIT: Devs aware of bug.

Seeing this myself, along with the reply button in compact mode for a post not working.
More info: if I refresh the feed, all of the images I clicked on are marked as read.
