I am having a mental debate on what OS out of Unraid, TrueNAS, or Proxmox to run. I recently acquired some enterprise server hardware for free:
I am running a g9 pl380; 13x1.92tb ssd’s, 2x 2699v4, and 24x32gb ddr4 ecc.

I have an unraid setup which is just an old gaming pc. I really like the GUI, containers/apps, and of course mixing drives. Unraid makes setting up game servers, pihole, any containers super simple and straightforward. I am not the biggest fan of the VM’s in Unraid which is why I am considering using something else now. The downsides of Unraid at this point is that I have 13 matching drives already

My end goal is to have “cloud” storage/NAS, plex server, game servers, containers, and easy/straightforward virtualization.

I am currently using TrueNAS Scale on a small NAS. It is used for both basic storage and hosting services like Jellyfin. It was easy to set up and is simple to manage. So far I’m pretty happy with it. It’s not so friendly for customisation but that’s a feature in this case as it means you can’t easily break it.

Proxmox is likely what you are looking for. You can find guides on how to use it online.
