    With all this concern of Chinese EV manufacturing outshining US domestic automakers, does anyone wonder if incumbent US brands will learn anything? Like, for example, will they consider that the small EVs from the Chinese market sell because they are small, practical cars and not needlessly large and cumbersome trucks and SUVs?

      CAFE and chicken tax.

      Companies in the US benefit from selling larger vehicles for regulation. Americans typically want larger cars.

          Americans don’t NEED to buy Tahoes, Sierras, F150s and Ram 2500s. They want them. There’s easily smaller options out there that could accomplish many of the same things like the Ford Maverick, a Chevy track, a Dodge hornet or others. They want them. It’s proven based on how they buy them up. Just because we don’t have tiny vehicles doesn’t mean we don’t have smaller cars. People just choose to buy the mega sized vehicles.

      Same happened in the 70s and 80s with Japanese vehicles, and again in the 90s with Korean vehicles. Eventually those foreign brands fall too, and sell what we’re told us Americans want. They always build bigger vehicles for North American markets. But not before domestic automakers fail to see what consumers are excited about by newer brands.
