I’m interested in knowing what you guys are using to access this community, whether or not it’s via mobile phone or via laptop or desktop.
If accessing via a laptop or a desktop, what is your OS? Windows, MacOS, or Linux? And if Linux, what distro are you using?
If accessing via a mobile device, you can add in some details about the app you are using or if you’re using it via a mobile browser.
Of course, you guys can add more details.
Just to provide a bit of a background behind the question: I’ve had this preconception that the ones here are among the more technologically-inclined (whatever that means), and thus, I’m curious about the make-up of devices and software used to access and interact with this community.
UPDATE:
As promised, here’s a link to the compiled data (with some rudimentary stats). I will be adding more onto them this weekend (if more replies come in).
First of all, thank you to all who’ve responded. While my preconceptions haven’t been shattered, I’m also pleasantly surprised to find out non-techies, refugees from Reddit, who have jumped in to the Threadiverse despite it all. I dunno if that’s indicative of the dumpster fire that is Reddit right now, or the tenacity of those who’ve sought refuge here. Maybe both.
I will be expanding on my thoughts, and others, on a separate reply.
mobile: android miui, im afraid to mod my OS wala akong 2nd phone eh, jerboa/firefox nightly
desktop: I’m dual boot but I rarely use my Win 10 so for me its ubuntu unity 20.04 firefox
So far… Poorly.
baka gusto nyo try, another script para mag look and feel old reddit style si lemmy using a browser
Brave browser on android.
I’ll start with mine.
I mostly use the desktop. My OS is Arch Linux and I use LibreWolf to access Lemmy.
Below is my fetch output:
On the times I use my (Android) mobile phone, I use the Jerboa app, which I’ve gotten from F-Droid.
I feel kinda ashamed at how smug I appear here.
EDIT: Edited out my screenfetch to remove my
user@host
sa mga projects using A.I. example stable diffusion or lalo na sa LLM ubos yung memory eh hahahaha
Might i ask, de-googled android phone?
For me, jerboa on (googled still) samsung A52. Pop!_os 20.40 on two laptops, linux mint xfce 20.3 on a 12 year old laptop. :) librewolf on all three.
Di ko pala nakita ito, sorry!
I didn’t go full de-google, but just opted for just a bit of de-bloating.
No worries dude. :) i don’t expect people to be attached to their social media. Thanks for clarifying though. Same boat tayo. Gusto ko man mag-full FOSS, medyo mahirap at marami pang hindi ko ma-give up. :) lalo na sa cellphone.
Baby steps, I guess? Little by little, we learn how to remove shit on our phones, then maybe we can do more as we gain more confidence.
I’m not in the Philippines but found this post on All. I’m using the /kbin PWA icon on my phone mostly. Looks like this.
iOS Lemmy world PWA. Just started using Lemmy so haven’t tried on desktop yet.
On a Win11 laptop at home, a Win 10 desktop at work, Jerboa for Lemmy on Android anywhere, and Vivaldi Browser for Android when I need features the current Jerboa app doesn’t have yet.
What is missing is the Enhancement Suite but for Lemmy. Things like user tags, among other tools.
Currently mostly through the web browser on my iPad and occasionally the computer. I’d estimate a 90/10 split. If there ends up being a well made app for iOS I’d easily switch to and use that.
Punta ka sa home tab ng Jerboa app, tapos i-click mo yung hamburger menu (upper-left) and then click mo yung parang triangle to the right of your profile picture.
Click mo yung “add account”
Fill in the necessary details and then click ‘login’
Verify mo kung tama yung URL ng instance mo ah! Kunwari, kung may account ka sa beehaw, eto yung dapat na nakalagay sa instance text box:
beehaw.org
EDIT: Clarified the instructions.
Accessing it via the Web on my desktop and then on the web app on my iPhone (bookmarked the site on Safari, which turns it into a basic app). I have Mlem and Memmy on my iPhone as well, but both are pretty bare bones at the moment and missing a lot of features. So I often find myself on the bookmarked-to-my-homescreen web app.
Like reddit, mobile is the primary place where I am accessing Lemmy, so I am REALLY hoping one of the existing apps becomes fully featured soon or Christian Selig develops an app like Apollo for Lemmy. I miss the Apollo app more than I miss Reddit. In terms of community and content, Lemmy seems promising as a “reddit replacement” but we really need some good mobile apps. That’s what has helped Mastodon take off IMO.
edit mali nareplyan ko hahaha
Using kbin as it was the first instance I signed up for. The Fediverse concept blew my mind when I first heard of it a couple of days ago. I had heard of Mastodon before but since I was barely using Twitter anymore, I didn’t feel the need to sign up. So this was my real introduction into the federation concept.
On desktop: Firefox with Tampermonkey and Stylus add-ons. Using this script for Tampermonkey, and this stylesheet for Stylus.
On mobile: Firefox with Tampermonkey (Stylus isn’t available on mobile yet). Using the script on I use on desktop, but also this one.
Yes, techie. Completed an IT-related course.
its available on firefox nightly and for me the most important extention oneko hahahaha, you see the tiny cat there
I access Lemmy.world on Firefox on my Windows 10 desktop. I also access it from my Surface Pro 9 (Firefox too) which has Windows 11. I haven’t tried it on my phone (android) yet, but I have download Jerboa and will try it out soon.
That’s the first mention of a Windows Surface device in this thread so far. Nice!
hehe, rare breed kami.
On mobile, Jerboa. I am not tech savvy and lemmy.world and the other instances are still confusing to me. But I want to ditch reddit for good so I’ll cope.
