Considering what a negative value proposition all 3 tiers of their subscription service are, this is probably the better idea.
I let my Plus (standard or whatever the lowest tier was) lapse this year for the first time since it was offered. There just wasn’t anything compelling they were offering for the now increased price.
I’ll stick to Xbox with Gamepass for my online needs on console. With most major games having cross play, there’s no reason to pay for an inferior service.
Yup, I let mine lapse, too, until a 30% discount came around Christmas. $50 bucks was worth it to me to continue to be able to access my decade-plus of giveaway games, as well as be able to pick up new monthly ones. But if they go the way of Games with Gold and stop offering those freebies, I think I’ll probably be done with PS+ until I get a PS5, if that ever happens.
