Minnesotans are now able to legally possess and grow their own marijuana for recreational purposes, after the Minnesota Legislature approved a 300-page bill earlier this year, and Gov. Tim Walz signed it into law shortly thereafter. It became official Tuesday.
What’s legal
Adults 21 and older can possess and travel in the state with 2 ounces of cannabis flower, 8 grams of concentrate and 800 milligrams worth of THC-containing edible products such as gummies and seltzers. They can have up to 2 pounds of cannabis flower at home.
Low-potency edibles made with THC from industrial hemp were legalized last year. They’ve been subject to a 10% marijuana tax since July 1. That tax will apply to other marijuana products as they become licensed for sales, but not on sovereign tribal lands.
How many grams of concentrate can you have at home? Seems weird that the limit would be 8g walking around and in your house.
800 mg? That’s like half a gummy.
800mg of THC is a massive dose lmao
most gummies have like 5mg - 15mg of THC per dose
Lol, I can barely handle 2.5mg and I chortled at the thought of that person taking 800mg.
Seriously, could you imagine? You’d be on the fucking moon.
Time to rethink about being an astronaut
No need for a PhD from a prestigious university, a lengthy career in the Air Force piloting highly dangerous experimental airplanes, followed by many years of training to become the best of the best and make it as an astronaut. You can just walk into your local dispensary, buy $160 worth of edibles (not forgetting to tip your budtender, of course), chow down on a metric shit load of gummies, and be on the moon in no time!*
*warningthisstatmentisnotanendorsementorrecommentdation.eating800mgofthcwillverylikelyfuckyouupandmakeyouthinkyourethelizardking.mayresultindeathandordiarrhoea.
That’s like 8 whole packs of gummies. If you eat 800mg you’re about to send yourself to the shadow realm.
Edit: oh wait…
800 milligrams worth of THC-containing edible products
That is very weirdly worded. If we’re talking about the weight of the product and not the dose then that’s really stupid.
That was my point. Thankfully the bill was better written than the article.
The article just described the law wrong. It does use the dose of THC in the actual law.
That’s the weight of the THC dose, not the total weight of the whole product containing the dose.
Well, it’s not written that way.
800 milligrams worth of THC-containing edible products
That’s different from “800 mg of THC in edible products”. You can have 800 mg of THC in 100 g of THC-containing edibles. The way it’s written in the law matters a lot. If it’s written like above, edibles are basically illegal.
I think that is just how the article described it.
The actual bill says:
…possess or transport edible cannabis products or lower-potency hemp edibles infused with a combined total of 800 milligrams or less of tetrahydrocannabinol
That’s much clearer. Thanks for digging the actual bill.
Your point is further bolstered by the fact that many departments weigh the entire product when charging people with possession. Your 1lb tub of bud butter may only contain 1g of THC but they’re going to charge you with possession of 1lb of concentrates.
Here I am in Iowa, just surrounded by states that have legalized… like being in a dry county, whatever am I to do? 😏
You think it’s weird in Iowa? Try Wisconsin! Literally every state it touches now has legal weed except for the tiny bit of Iowa we touch in the corner. Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan. All now have legal weed. But I still see the news reports in Wisconsin about “criminals” being caught with weed. It’s insane.
Yeah, its frustrating here sometimes.
Hope for wind?
Well DEFINITELY don’t you dare drive to one of those said states to aquire any marijuana. That would be exceedingly naughty.
Right? Something a law abiding citizen of a pot-free state would never do!
The problem is that if you get caught you can be charged a federal crime instead of with a state crime.
Federal crimes include mandatory minimum sentences/jail time in addition to fines.
Believe me, I have thought about making the trip elsewhere since my state will be the last to ever legalize. The closest legal place is 2.5 hours from my house.
Me getting caught would screw up multiple lives including my own, however. Instead, I have to settle for the poor man’s stuff (delta8, delta9, etc) and only get the real stuff when I travel. The poor man’s stuff helps a medical condition I have, but is nothing like the real thing.
That’s why you never commit more than 1 crime at a time.

I’ve had good results, but it’s really come down to finding a reliable place to buy and a good brand. Personally have been using Mellow Fellow’s carts, and they’ve been the best I’ve had outside of actual weed.
Flower has been harder, admittedly. Knew of one place that had really quality stuff, but they’re pretty much going out of business now and there’s currently no news about what’s being done with their farm.
I cant even get out of my state in 2.5 hours. Not sure how long I’d have to drive to get some legal weed.
Ah, I see you live in Texas.
Yeah, I get that. It’s a shame we can’t get it Federally legalized.
We should legalize it federally and then only allow commercial growing in the states that have already legalized it. Dont let them boost their tax haul for something they decided they didnt like.
In Wyoming and I feel the same. Other states are making money while mine is spending money arresting people.
Yes! Like I guess I could just give all this money to Illinois and improve their economy…
I heard huffing road salt can give you a pretty good high and there should be no shortage of it around Iowa. Also, boofing freshly shucked corn is supposed to induce quite the euphoric experience. You’re not completely out of options in rural Iowa.
You’re supposed to shuck it??
Also, boofing freshly shucked corn is supposed to induce quite the euphoric experience.
Well now i’m thinking I didn’t give Iowa enough of a chance.
This ancient Iowan practice is actually the origin of the game “corn hole.” Back in the day people used to compete to see who could get the most cobs down their friend’s hole. Whoever got the most won that year’s prized dairy cow.
You can buy in Illinois even with out of state ID apparently.
Yes, about half as much as in-state license holders can.
Don’t worry Kim Reynolds will keep Iowa safe from the dangers of addiction and scary gateway drugs.
Funny considering the woman is an alcoholic drunk driver.
Even the medical ones for cataracts and arthritis are out. In Iowa, you can only have pot if you currently have cancer and/or are dying. That’s not completely true, but it is only for the most extreme medical conditions.
I think the way the laws are written, you are correct. But you can get a med card easily according to the people I’ve spoken to at bud an Mary’s.
How do think I feel in Wisconsin?
First the cops all leave the Twin Cities and now this! Things looking up for Minnesota
Just in time for my trip to Minnesota!
Just got back from Minnesota but I’m in Illinois so I just smuggled my own medical stuff across state lines, through Iowa and Wisconsin. Next time I’ll be able to buy some there and not have to worry about federal prison over a plant 😎
Anyone else reading this in the voice of Will Sasso doing Jessue Ventura?
"I’ve got 1000 gallons of fresh water and a silo filled with Tacos’
“have up to 2 lbs of flower at home”
Minnesota should rightfully take New Hampshire’s Live Free or Die motto. What a joke. It should be:
Live Free Except for a Plant We Purposely Labeled a Schedule One Drug Because of Black People, Latinos, and an Ancient White Guy Who Was Scared that His Paper Mills Would be Worthless with the Invention of a Faster Hemp Cultivator.
Hey! Your stealing our illinois tax revenue. Man its a good thing we got the border states that we do. Stop those dummcrats wis, ind, iowa, misura, tennese, arkansaw or this horrible nightmare will happen to you!!!

I think he forgot the /s
boy if I ever thought I did not need it. Im sorta jelly though as they are mostly about grow whereas illinois is all about tax and does not allow grow.

Yeah remember when alcohol was legal? Wait. It is.
And so much more dangerous than weed.

I’m so glad idiots like you aren’t in charge of policy in Minnesota.

Since weed is significantly less dangerous than tabacco or alcohol, I assume you’re for a complete ban on both of them as well?
Is it just me or does Lemmy have a particularly hard time detecting sarcasm?
I’ve heard that statement nearly verbatim from people who were entirely serious - and judging from my upvote count (and the original comment downvotes), several others thought you were serious as well.
Edit - Wait, I thought you were the creator of the original comment - you aren’t. There’s still a very good chance this isn’t sarcasm.
