Purpose wise the same. They’re different apps like chrome vs Firefox or Outlook vs thunder bird. Lots of us are excited about sync because it’s a very polished client and the Reddit version was being developed for years with polish and functionally being added that entire time. It’s made by a dev who is very good at making apps and I assume a lot of the Reddit client code base could be reused so the polished experience could be transferred to the Lemmy client.
