As I said, love Sync, paid immediately to remove ads. Keep up the amazing work my dude.
Before I spend money (15 eur is not cheap, but is worth it for this app, imo), I want to know if it’s not just a visual ad removal but the data collection and all the tracking gets actually disabled
It says €19 here. (a year!!) No offence for the dev. But I fucking hate subscription based services. I really wanted to support the dev and have an ad free experience. But this is imo a bridge too far. I hope many people support him. But count me out… Sorry.
There is a new option to remove ads forever for 15. No subscriptions.
Perfect. This solves my only issue.
That was many people’s only issue :)
It’s £19 here.
Where is this new option?
On beta 25 it’s on the drawer, between Settings and Get Ultra menus. A new Remove ads button
Welp, for me in Portugal it shows up as 23€…
I remember the good days when I bought Sync Pro for 2,49€…
@El_Rocha
It was already ridiculous an hour ago when it was priced at 16€ (compared to $12 everywhere else).
I want to support the app but 23€ in our economy is simply ludicrous.Exactly. I hope this is an experimental price. Otherwise, I’ll have to drop this app.
I’m seeing AUD$
35$33.99.I paid AUD$1.91 ten years ago for “reddit sync pro” (I believe it was on sale).
I was expecting to pay around $10-$15 to block ads, so this is a bit of a shock.
Are you sure you are on beta 25? It shows me 15 eur when clicking “remove ads”, not get ultra
I didn’t see the option at all last night. This morning the app updated, and now I see the remove ads option.
An insane amount of money to remove ads. Guess I’m going to keep using Liftoff.
Connect is free and fantastic, and the dev(s) are adding new features regularly. I’m a bit torn, as I loved Sync for Reddit and was happy to give my money again for Sync for Lemmy - just not quite that much of it.
Maybe give Summit a try. It’s similar to Sync, but ad free.
It’s showing £18.99 for me, which is a lot. I thought it was going to be like £2.99!
I bought Sync Pro for that… almost 10 years ago. IMO a polished Lemmy app with that many years of experience and tune-up is worth more than the original price.
Max €10 imo. Even that is on the high side just to remove ads. But that is something I would be willing to pay. And only because I know it is a good app. New customers will never even pay €10.
The developer is full time dedicated to development of this app. We are his income. People can’t stand the idea of paying for the things they use. Get over yourselves. You pay $70 for a video game you play for 20 hours but less than 1/3 the price for something you use every day for years and suddenly that’s way too much money. If you don’t want it don’t buy it. Nobody is making you.
Exactly. Nobody is making me and I won’t. But we are at a place of discussion here, so I guess I can add my perspective. It is a lot of money just to remove ads. You can’t deny that. I’m just wishing him the best of luck selling it to new users for that price. The only users that will buy it for that price are the reddit sync fans.
Yep, the ad sdk doesn’t even initialize if you’ve paid to remove ads
How do you know? You aren’t lj :)
The dev himself said so
Link? Cite ur sources pls
Lol it was a discord screenshot that I saw posted in a comment section in this sub several hours ago, go knock yourself out looking for it
Sick, thanks!
Confirming this is the case.

It’s complicated due to newer play store policies
Google again. Of course.
This is exactly why I haven’t downloaded it - I was looking forward to Sync for Lemmy, and I’ve been using Connect in the meantime. But Connect doesn’t collect any data, according to Google Play, and Sync does. I’m on the fence about paying to keep my data my own, at this point.
If the ads sdk is not initialized for the paid version, and no data is collected, then there is no issue.
Except for data shared in the moments before I purchase, sure. Which is what leaves me on the fence, to be honest. Hopefully there will be more info about how this is handled soon.
Sure, but you can do a GDPR request to delete it, if you are an EU resident
I wish I could, but I’m in the US. And on the Google Play store it says data can’t be deleted, so I’m assuming that since I’m not in the EU, there will be no leniency for me. The more I think about it, the less I want to deal with it, personally. With that being said, I recognize that not everyone will agree with me, and of course that’s perfectly fine.

It’s in the updated app. Beta 25, already in play store. Check for updates
It should be rolling out on the play store. Beta 25 has the option to remove ads
I paid to remove ads and support the developer because Sync is my favorite app for the past decade.
Having said that, I think the price is steep. I understand development has its cost and so I am more than willing to do my part, but this is going to be a hard sell for my friends or some others for sure.
The app is amazing though and I’m so happy to be back on Sync.
NextDNS seems to block the ads. I just get a blank box that says “sponsored content” lol
Will there be a pro version of this app? I would rather that as opposed to in app purchase which seems to bug out sometimes on the previous app
IIRC the Play Store has disallowed (or heavily favors against) “duplicate” apps.
Because that means you must allow them to dig in their drm far deeper, and thus lock all your users deeper into google play over just android. Very similar to their push of safetynet and their new web drm.
In practice for users right now it means a less stable experience, and all kinds of weird problems in usecases like work profiles. Plus all the things they’ll abuse this for once enshittification gets going on that section of the google play system
I previously purchased Sync for Reddit to remove ads, will I need to do a separate purchase for Lemmy?
Yes. Sync for Lemmy is a completely different app.
Lol. Keep dreaming. Not only do you need to do a separate purchase for lemmy. (which is more then fair!) The price is now €19. But wait. There is more! It is a price per year.
There is a one time purchase option. The subscription is for features that need additional cloud services.
He was saying that he wanted his Reddit Sync Pro license migrated to a Lemmy Sync Pro license. At least that was my understanding.
Then why are you quoting the price of ultra, which is something completely different?
The app just got updated with a 1 time purchase option for ads removal.
Which is fair like I said in my comment. I don’t understand the downvotes.
Probably because you said it was a subscribtion and it is not. It is a separate from ultra.
